St. Francis Xavier Academy Welcomes Theo.
So here we are. The first day of kindergarten was Monday, September 8 and Theo headed off to St. Francis Xavier Academy in Weymouth to meet Mrs. Polvere and the little cherubs in his class. He handled goodbyes like a champ, likely due to our Kindergarten-Eve reading of the "The Night Before Kindergarten." We packed his new Cars lunchbox (picked out with care from Target) with a sunflower butter (no peanuts) and Fluff sandwich and away he went. I cried and cried and cried for reasons I can't explain. It's not like these years have exactly flown by and here I am totally shocked that he's already five. I can believe he's five. But it was just so disarming to see him clad in his little blue uniform and I think I was just sad thinking about him in that classroom scared and sad and missing me and Jon and Grammy and in fact that wasn't the case at all. He came home happy as can be with reports of good times and new friends. So we're off and running and speaking of running...Theo is signed up for the SFX Running Club and I am volunteering as a parent helper so Monday we'll begin that. I have a new schedule at work so I can pick Theo up from school now. Tuesdays we go to soccer and Wednesdays we go to swimming and some day he'll actually have a moment to be a kid. I never thought we'd have such an over-scheduled child but it was prescribed by his pediatrician at Tufts that he be around other kids as much as possible to help with his social skills and so Jon and I have taken that and stretched it to his limits. More as the year develops.
